GREAT WAR SOLITAIRE BUNDLE is a set of three World War I games--one land, one air, and one sea--each specifically designed for solo play, sold at one low price.

**************

GREAT WAR SALVO! NORTH SEA EXPANSION & INTRO RULES is an expansion module for the Great War Salvo! game system, and is fully compatible with the Great War Salvo! game system. (If you have Great War Salvo! 3rd ed., you already own everything in this set.)

The game is a strategy, solitaire, tactical naval wargame that enables players to recreate early World War I naval battles between individual British and German warships on the table top. It includes four-page Introductory Rules so you can play the basic version of the game, with the 140 ships provided (BB, BC, AC, CL, AMC types, rated in a variety of offensive and defensive categories), also includes game markers, and Reference Card. Overall, this is a good introduction to the GWS! game system for those new to it. Designed by Gary Graber.

**************

BATTLE OF THE SOMME is a solitaire, tactical (individual men) WW1 board wargame simulating some of the events of July 1st, 1916, the first day of the Somme campaign, and the bloodiest day in British army history.  In the game, you (the gamer) take charge of one 45-soldier platoon going over the top against the German trenches and machine guns opposite (played by the game system), in various historical scenarios.  The object of the game is for your platoon to take the German trench with as few casualties as possible. Regular, Territorial, and New Army (Pals) units--soldiers and officers--are represented in the scanarios.

Includes a 50-page illustrated, color rule book containing all the rules, tables, advanced game rules, and optional rules necessary for play, hexagon mapsheet, 540 individually names color soldier counters, game markers, and a Reference Card, 17 historical scenarios (see below), campaign games, historical commentary, and designer's notes.  You will need a six-sided die, and a deck of standard playing cards to play.  The game rates high in playability and historicity, with scenarios that can be completed in about half an hour.  The rules and scenarios will hold interest for miniature wargamers as well.

Also provided is the Battle of the Somme Extra Counter Set, which includes two additional soldier counter sheets, two historical platoons (well over 300 new counters overall), and two additional scenarios involving these platoons in the Big Push. Designed by Gary Graber.

EINDEKKER is a solitaire, tactical air combat wargame depicting the time of the "Fokker Scourge" over the Western Front in 1915. In this game, you play the role of a famous German fighter pilot (Max Immelmann or Oswald Boelcke) flying a Fokker Eindekker EI. Play takes place over a period representing one week, individual planes are represented, with you aiming to dominate the skies over the battlefield. Each day you choose what mission you are undertaking (Combat Patrol, Trench Patrol, or Trench Suport) and take off... will you run into enemy plane(s)?  When is discretion the better part of valor? How can you turn your piloting skills to your advantage?  The game has a tactical feel and presents challenges to you as you try and reach your vctory point goals.  Included is 16-page digest size rules, Chart Display, Battlefield Map, and set of counters and markers.

EINDEKKER is now available on Wargame Vault as a PDF edition.  Designed by Bob Flood. Published by Minden Games.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
