Great game with an old school Rogue Trader feel. With these rules and some imagination there's no limit to the grimdark insanity you can unleash on the table. Seems to work really well with a game master running the scenario. 5 stars from this jaded old gamer. Love it!!!!

Super Tiny Skirmish is a fun little man-to-man skirmish game that lives up to its name. The rules come in at just under eight A5 sized pages (roughly half a sheet of US Letter: think booklet size) at 24pt font. This means you get a complete skirmish game in under 500 words! The game is set in what I would consider a low fantasy setting, although the system is simple enough that you could easily adapt it to other settings if you wished. The rules allow you to generate fighters, fight with those fighters, and even gives you a simple system for leveling up, building a warband, and gaining equipment.

The game mechanics are quick and easy: each fighter has two actions per turn, and each fighter is given four stats. To preform an action (such as attack or attempt to survive an attack) the player must roll UNDER the relevant stat on a 2d6 roll. The system is IGO-UGO, and with only a handful of miniatures per player, the game plays very quickly. The last game I played, my opponent and I were able to form two opposing warbands, play a game, switch sides, and play again, all in the space of about 45 minutes.

The game does lack any real “chrome,” but, depending on your play style, I find that as a strength. With a little bit of imagination you can easily implement additional mechanics as you see fit. For instance, my opponent and I thought it would be fun to give each fighter a unique “skill” that it could preform as an action, and assigned it to the relevant stat.

Will Super Tiny Skirmish replace other games on your table? Probably not. But that’s ok because it’s not trying to. It is what it says it is: a quick little pub game, and a refreshing one at that.

Planet 28 is a narrative skirmish game using dice and miniatures. Death on the Periphery (DotP) adds a simple solo/co-operative mode to the game. Essentially, this boils down to rules for a warband to have a single character, an optional table of agendas for co-op play (which are great! I really like the Pacifist one), a tweak to spice up activation for the non-player artificial intelligence (AI), and a very simple AI for the baddies. The AI basically uses as many opportunities as possible to attack the player's warband, with no variation for different mindsets (cautious, methodical, etc). Having said that, the warband creation rules in the main rulebook includes traits such as coward, so you can just create your enemy as you wish them to act. The supplement ends with a short campaign of three linked encounters, with full stats for two different enemy types. The campaign is designed to be played solo or co-op and it looks like it would be a great intro to the game. For a competetive or co-op game I think the crunch is probably just right. I do worry that there's a bit too much dice rolling crunch for solo play though. I've found that I only want small warbands to cut down on the amount of dice rolling. Death on the Periphery adds even more tools to the toolbox that is Planet 28. I think that you can do pretty much what you want with this game and it's dead simple to hack. The vague setting is implied to be murder hobos in space I think, but the rules allow for fantasy, pulp, modern, ancient, etc with a minimum of hacking.

Simple little skirmish rules with plenty of detail in very few pages. No setting is implied but the artwork suggests a grim old scool feel. Abilities and arcane powers add variety and there is a list of simple weapon types. Simple scenario and campaign info is included too. Bring all of your D&D dice because you'll probably need them all. One of the bonuses is the lack of tokens. But that requires bookeeping as you record your troops' hit points. I haven't tried the solo rules yet.
